a taste of heaven

taste of heaven

I was a a farmer’s market last week when I came upon this sign – these signs? Anyway, it definitely seemed like a sign to me. The lovely man that ran the table went to some trouble to explain what the signs meant and he gave me a painting by some dutch painter which explained the signs but actually it really didn’t. I didn’t understand what he was trying to tell me. I know I live in a largely Christian culture, but a lot of it goes right over my head. As far as I can tell heaven and hell are here right here on earth. I like these signs because they seem to imply that heaven is ours for the asking and just a taste of it will be enough to alter our life’s course.

Of course, asking for what you want is not necessarily so straightforward. We all have trouble with this one, which is maybe why the lovely guy at the table thought it was a sentiment worth repeating. It is worth repeating. Get over yourself. Just ask. The worst that can happen is you don’t get it. But you’ll never get it if you don’t ask. See?

Ask for a taste of heaven. You never know what might show up.
