God’s in His Heaven

puff the magic dragon copy

There’s a phrase I only know from Anne of Green Gables, but she’s quoting Robert Browning and I can’t say for sure why I love it so much, since I don’t really believe in God – or at least a God that lives in Heaven with a white beard and a penis, and I understand that contextually the quote is meant ironically, but I just like the phrase: “God’s in His Heaven, All’s Right with the World.” It comes over me at times, usually when I’m outside and in sight of some awesome scene from nature, something that fills me with expanse and just keeps filling. In moments like that I can’t help but feel that as crappy as things may be right now, they’re also just about perfect if you know where to look and you’re even a little bit lucky, and tonight I got really a lot lucky, and that’s just a damned fact.

So no irony, just joy: God’s in His Heaven, All’s Right with the World.
